Arizona Horse Racing

Arizona is a well known venue for live horse racing with a commercial race track in Phoenix, Tucson, and Prescott Valley. Live horse racing is also offered at several different county fairs throughout the state. The thoroughbred is the most popular among breeders and is the main attraction at race tracks.

Arizona has a long history of horse racing going back to the early 1900s. During prohibition Arizona was one out of 3 states that allowed legal betting on horse racing. Some groups such as the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association having their start in the 1940s are still around today. In 1943 Tucson, Arizona hosted the first American Quarter Horse races after it was recognized as an official breed registry.

If you find yourself outside of the main horse racing locations in Arizona you can still place your bets in one of the many OTB (Off Track Betting) locations throughout the state.
